During the past decade, the Government of Chile successfully executed an effective tax reform in e-invoicing, resulting in a dramatic rise of e-invoice reporting by taxpayers from 10% In 2014 to 100% by 2020. Final phase of the reform precluded that all taxpayers that issue invoices in B2C transactions are obliged by law to issue sales and services receipts electronically starting January 2021. That gave the Servicio de Impuestos Internos (Internal Revenue Service in Chile) the tool to obtain all the necessary information to prepare the VAT Return. This has allowed SII to substantially increase the level of tax administration effectiveness and VAT compliance. As a result, by the end of 2017 the total amount of VAT paid using the pre-filled electronic forms reached 84%, inspired by the progress, SII took measures to improve further and reached a considerable result of 91% by the end of 2018.
